Does anyone think the latest tensions surrounding the two countries are actually going to break out into full-scale war? North Korea has threatened an "enveloping fire" around US territory Guam, with America shooting back that if it happens, North Korea will be dealt with with "fire and fury like the world has never seen". Worse than the bombs dropped on Japan? Speaking of Japan, the missiles headed toward Guam would fly over their airspace. Surely they wouldn't just allow that.

The ignorance of the previous administration about North Korea's nuclear weapons program has put us in a bad position.

No, I don't think a war will come of it. I certainly hope I'm right.

There's no fucking way this brings about nuclear war.

NK has been allowed to slowly, but surely, continue to develop weapons that will, at some point, threaten North America.

Well, that assuming that the US doesn't have multiple layers of missle defense...

If they do something stupid enough to bring Trumpy to bear on them, then it would take the US military about 15 minutes to eradicate their painfully "conventional" army...without any nukes.

You guys (Stock and Baldy) are either being painfully sarcastic or painfully stupid.

Vietnam, like Afghanistan, was a guerilla war.

This would be more like Iraq with 20 years of better technology for us, but not them.

Exactly. I don't think the movie will resemble "Platoon".

A war with NK would be pretty complex, I don't get why people think we would just fly right over there bomb away, and it be over. NK has actually a huge army and more weapons then previously thought of, plus they are neighbors with Russia and allies with China.

Allies only matter if they can jump in. Nobody will jump in in NK's defence if they strike first. NK is ideal for aerial bombing and cruise missile attacks (I.e. right by the sea and fairly flat). The issue is how many SK and Japanese citizens do they plan on taking with them if the US launches an attack.

You are crazy if you think Russia and China would let the US attack a neighbor without any say.

Agreed. I know China said they wouldn't help if NK attacks, but I would expect they would quickly find an excuse to enter the fray if the other outcome is a USA ally sharing their border.

Their first goal would be to stop the mass influx of North Koreans looking to get out of dodge

I would assume the'd be none to happy if we used nuckes and then who knows what they'd do

yup.

I haven't really seen any assessment of whether or not we really "can" use nukes..... are the NK targets far enough from SK to avoid collateral damage? are wind patterns right to make sure SK and Japan don't get hit with the fallout? I can't imagine that Russia or China would be OK with us contaminating chunks of their countries for a few decades....

....actually, now that I think about it, I don't know shit about the current state of nuclear weapons tech.

Yeah I dont think they'd be too pleased having the radiation blowing over

China's sanctions against NK, should have the desired affect.

Would have been interesting to see if HRC was Pres if the response would have been the same..

Have to give that Nikki Haley credit for getting everyone on board for that. On the surface it looks like quite an accomplishment.

I say "on the surface" b/c I wonder if there isn't something strategic about it for russia and china..
