The guy was incredibly smart. Just listening too him in an interview was a treat. I guess you don't invent rock & roll and remain one of it's greats for 70 years, without a helluva mind.
The guy literally invented most of the stories that are embedded in modern music. And most of the showmanship / routines. They had a clip of him yesterday where he said the the duckwalk was just him trying to get up from from falling down, and people cheered so much that he kept it as a thing.
He was also an incredible scumbag. Excerpt:
