The Rick Nash rumours kind of gave me this idea.
When I think of worst contracts, I think of Jay Bouwmeister. $6,680,000 and he won't be a UFA until 2014.
This guy also holds maybe the most dishonourable distinction in sports:
He has played 14 years of junior and professional hockey. Including all of his years spent in the WHL, AHL and NHL, he has not registered a single post-season point. Even in the 17 post-season games he played for the Chicago Wolves in the AHL during the lockout, he did not tally one point. And those 17 games in 2004-2005 was his only playoff experience.
Other bad contracts off the top of my head:
-Ilya Bryzgalov ($7 mil a year for the rest of his career)
-Matt Stajan ($3.5 mil for a natural 3rd line center)
-Rick Dipietro (nuff said)
-Scott Gomez (nuff said)
I'm no Luongo fan and probably would've listed his contract above had it not been for Bryzgalov contract, which make Lou look like a god-damned steal by comparison.
Best contracts (not including entry contracts):
-Claude Giroux (only $3.75 and for two more years for one of the 3-5 best players in the league)
-Kris Letang (only $3.5 million per year for one of the best defensemen in the game)
-Alex Burrows ($2 million for a 30 goal scorer).
-Maxine Talbot (based on his production this year, not bad for $1.75 mil long-term)
-Sedin Playoff Series Wins: 6
-Minnesota Mild Series Wins: 2 |

Brzy is a close 2nd right now. The guy is the ultimate flake. He at least has some chance to rebound, if not this year, but DiPietro can't even stay healthy. His contract is so bad that it will have a year left on it when Universe's expires and it's already been 6 years.

Matt Moulson is the best..
2.9/mil for someone who has 79 goals the last 2.5 seasons.
Worst is obviously either DiPietro and Gomez.
Or maybe Wade Redden making 5.5mil/year for playing in Hartford...

Everyone forgot about Alexei Yashin. He hasn't played in the NHL in years, and is being payed over 2 million until 2015.

Jeff Finger got an awful contract from the Leafs. I think it's around 3.5/year. It ends at the conclusion of the year, so it's not as bad as some right now.
I agree about Komisarek, 4.5 for another 2 years after this one. You have to think he's AHL bound at some point. While were on the Leafs, throw in Colby Armstrong as well. 3 million/per for 8 goals over 2 years so far. He's been awful. Constantly hurt, and doesn't even play physical.
Ville Leino is on an awful contract as well.
What does everyone think about Ovechkin? He's making more than anyone in the league (not playing that way) and signed until 2021.

On the top ten most overpaid NHLers, DiPietro is one, two and three. Horrible.

Komisarek's pisses me off the most, I know that much. What a fucking stiff.

OV without a doubt is coasting since getting his huge contract. He's basically untradeable at this point, even if the Caps considered it. Their owner is more interested in putting asses in the seats than he is at winning a cup.

I think the Isles bought him out: 2007/06/06 Contract bought out by the New York Islanders (final four years).

I have Glenn Sather as the Rangers GM.....
I don't want to hear all this shit about this year...please he has had this job for over a decade. One year is not good enough for this franchise. Need I elaborate on his many many many gaffes, including trading away the greatest Ranger of all-time "Brian Leetch".

Dustin "Pancakes" Penner at 4.25 is pretty bad. DiPietro and Gomez are no brainers.
Homer pick but 0.8 for Shawn Thornton has been a steal. And he made just 0.5 the first couple of seasons with the Bruins.

You're right they did, but he's still on the books until 2015. Check Capgeek under buyouts.Mike Milbury was a genius.

Dipietro is the obvious one.
Great calls on Redden, Finger.

Hard to believe that Redden is making $6.5 million per year to play in the AHL. I am pretty sure he has 2 years left on that deal after this season.
