I remember back in February when I was in Saskatoon on business, drinking really awesome beers at this Irish pub right downtown, I started watching the Oilers-Leafs game. The Leafs won the game in OT (4-3) in dramatic fashion. All I really thought of at the time was: "this team just beat the perrenial last place team and they are celebrating like they won the damn Cup!" I didn't think much of it, except that I figured even then that this was their year to make it back into the playoffs.
Well, here we are a month and a half later and they are 4-13-3 since that game. Even before that game, they had lost 4 straight, making their stretch run record an abysmal 5-17-3 in the last 25 games. I even heard that in their last game that the fans started chanting, "Let's Go Blue Jays!"
Should Brian Burke be fired? Simple question. This team burnt up like the Hindenburg. I loved the work Burke did here in Vancouver, but there is no way this can be acceptable in any hockey market, let alone Toronto.

No. I'd wait until a full year with Carlyle first. If they aren't a playoff team next year, then he's gone.

I agree with Tim. I think Wilson was the problem but Bruke was part of the problem too because he let his friendship with Wilson interfere with his job. The team is in total disarry. Bruke stands for tough hockey and the team has gone soft. It's a horror show but if he and Carlyle get on the same page it could be a lot better next year.

I liek Burke and the way he build teams, but I think he really hamstrung the Leafs with some very bad contracts like Armstrong and Komiserak. The Kessel trade kind of set them back quite a bit. WHile I dont think Burke thought the pick would be #2, #33 and #9 overall. Seguin- 26 goals 62 points +28 and is still only 20. Jared Knight- 2 points in 3 AHL games and 62 points in 52 games for London Knights. Dougie Hamilton- 72 points in 50 games as a DEFENCEMAN and is a +47.
I think its safe to say Burke has failed in Toronto so far. But I do like Burke and think he might still turn it around.

Burke have been a bit of questionable guy to me for going to watch in his person but by a manager hes ok one in the league, theres badder managers than him actually.

Armstrong wasn't a bad contract IMO. It was just a matter of bad fortune that he's been hurt as often as he has been. He's a good third liner that is the type of player who rounds out a good playoff team.

plus Armstrong is a great locker room guy. You really can't pay enough for guys like him. I have no problem with that contract.

Agreed that I'd let the Burke/Carlyle era have a full season under their belts. Ron Wilson was more so the problem and the reason why the Leafs were so fucking pussified this year.
But Burke needs to do something special in the off-season, enough is enough. He doesn't sign the big players because he doesn't like the contract structures? Are you fucking kidding me? Just fucking sign them already, he avoids the big names and instead goes after the scraps. Man the fuck up already Burke!

Goalie. No Brainer.
Guidance for the kids, too bad Roberts and Corson are retired.
Bring Tie in as an A Coach.
Teemu or Iginla (if he is available). Get in some faces in Toronto.
Buy out or bury Connolly.
Bring up Colton Orr, At least there was excitement and interest to go to Leafs games.
My HO, Caryle and Burke have 013, if there is no production, they are toast.
Burke as much as I like him, is working off his reputation now, not his abilities, which are zero in TO.

If the Leafs do not make the playoffs next year then he is done forsure. New ownership will step in and fire him.
He needs to do something big this offseason. Nash, Parise, Starting goalie. Dump 3-4 of their bad contracts.

He needs to go now, I'd like to see a comparison of stat's on how the players improved their skills in hockey vs golf under Burke...

If you fire him, you have to have a replacement ready. It's easy to fire a dude, but if you don't have a guy that's going to do a better job then it doesn't matter.
Devils John Madden being interviewed:
Interviewer- How does it feel to cover Gomez?
Madden- I don't know. I don't cover 3rd line centers.

The Leafs have several guys in their organization who have been GM's in the past. Dave Nonis, Rick Dudley and I'm not sure if Claude Loiselle has been a GM in the past.
I'd be ok with Nonis. He's been credited with most of the good deals the Leafs have made, like Lupul/Gardiner or the Kaberle deal.

It's not a bad contract, it's a horrible contract. Outside of being a good locker room guy (apparently), he brings nothing to the game. He throws the odd body check and then disappears for the rest of the game. He's also made of glass, no thanks.
When the Leafs signed him, I thought we were looking at 15 goals, 40 points a season, with 3 or so fights mixed in. He's brought none of that. Judging from his only fight in a Leafs uniform (Seidenberg) I hope his gloves stay glued firmly in place.
