I was wondering where Ron,TGR32 was all this time,

Ron's 9 part overview is a brilliant review and well thought out of the hobby and the history of the mechanics and workings of the hobby.

This 9 part overview is well done, and has to be considered along with the Phil Davis Post a must read for those old time pioneers or anyone thinking of entering the hobby.

In all of the what 20 years of FC I believe this is and has to be the best post ever with the Phil Davis post number 2

I would never get bored of reading and would be reading it over and over again.

Well done Ron,even though the last few years we went at it pretty good, and downright nasty, once again a job well done and a thorough and accurate description of the what the hobby was, where it is and where it is going.

I`ll second that comprehensive write up that covered just about every emotion & thought.
Nice Job TGR!

One of my favorite memories aside from seeing that beautiful parcel in the mail, that was better than Christmas morning or SP & I meeting Sandy up at the Glenpointe Hotel to pick up tapes... were seeing the box scores the following morning & using ones imagination of how the match ups went down in a fight filled game such as this one.... Good times never to be repeated with todays instant gratification.

Man, there must have been nobody left to put on the ice @ 08:58. Meloche vs Vachon, what a great period piece !

That's funny regarding the 'instant gratification' vs. how we used to do things. I remember looking at box scores in the morning for the fights (and imagining them), and also to use the lineups in the baseball boxes to go play wiffleball, replay the games, and be the guys in different lineups. Right, left, mimic their stances / swings. Nothing like being the Pirates and having to be Stargell, Parker, Sanguillen. Some strange guys and styles. Once in a while you'd bean your buddy, throwing the wiffleball as hard as you could, to start a scuffle.

Same thing with fantasy, today vs. yesterday. It's just sick being in the ESPN system where you can actually watch your scores take shape real time, or watch the play-by-play recap of games that have your guys.

I remember being in a FBL league about 25 years ago, we'd have a draft at somebody's house, had to all be there in person. The commish would buy a disk with all of last year's stats and ratings of guys, as well as a stats template for keeping the new year's stats.

He'd have to hand load all the current stats for everybody's guys every 2 weeks, crunch everybody's team stats, print and make a copy for every guy and mail them out to everybody. You would literally wait 2 weeks to get your latest paper copy in the mail to see the standings in your league. Feels like something from the 1800's.

Excellent writeup. The passion is evident and is impressive. All of the emotion and excitement of the hobby is here. attitudes about so many things have changed and sadly I don't see them changing back but I will tell you this I am grateful for taking part in this hobby. The feeling of finding a classic fight still gets my blood flowing and I have been collecting fight related items for 50 years. For the most part the people that I have dealt with over the years have made the collecting and trading etc one great ride. And again its something to be grateful for. Ron you did a great job.
