Hardcore. It's a term that seems to be getting tossed around rather loosely these days in the music industry. This new "Hardcore" is nothing more than some kind of rap/metal mixture...why is it called Hardcore? Also, if anyone is a fan of this new breed of hardcore can you list some examples. I'm confused I guess. The other day a young man asked me what kind of music i like/listen to. "Hardcore" I said and he went on to say how cool hardcore was and the different hardcore shows he has been to. Yet, as he kept speaking I kept wondering if we were talking about the same thing. I stopped him and said, "hey wait...when i say hardcore I'm obviously talking about HARDCORE, you know hardcore punk rock!" You see, there used to be a time where you didn't have to specify what Hardcore was...Hardcore Metal, Hardcore Rap, hardcore Jazz, Hardcore Rock...WTF...have times gotten that lame where I now have to spell out "Hardcore Punk Rock n Roll with 8/10ths tempo changes every 5th beat with Shout Lines every other 10th beat" Yeah... I listen to hardcore music. I am not a straight edge person. I love straight edge bands. I like my hardcore angry and loud, melodic hardcore is also nice at times. This thread is about Hardcore. What bands do you like? Any reccomendations. This past week a true classic was released. BANE - GIVE BLOOD. We're talking slamming, floor punching, songs of wisdom, anguish and growth. I thought Reach the Sky were good, but the past two Bane cd's are some of the best hardcore I have heard. Any Gorilla Biscuts fans out there?

Dont have a fucking clue as to how to explain "hardcore". But 98 Mute is a damn good one...kind of remind me of Death by Stereo. Then theres Straight Faced and Madball. Downset is good as well. Raised Fist too i guess. Most people i talk to think of hardcore as slipknot, mudvayne, limp bizcuit, etc. Once i get a good laugh out of that they look at me like that shit is as hardcore as you can get. Once again...*laughs*.

have you heard North Side Kings? They're supposed to be good. I can't talk about the hardcore I listen to.

Honestly i dunno what hardcore is really. I like bands like Gorillat Biscuits and Raised Fist but on the other hand i like bands such as ignite and no fun at all who get a hardcore label and are as far from true hardcore as it gets it seems. People get straight up melodic punk rock and hardcore mixed up and that confuses me. On the other hand two of my favorite bands have hardcore roots and the occasional song but are not true hardcore musicians. Bigwig and Propagandhi basically play every type of punkrock out there but can not be called one particular type. They are not purely melodic, skate, hardcore, softcore, pop punk..and so. Bands like that i refer to as melodic skate punk thrashcore. These are my favorite types of bands, a blend of everything. Im not a straight out hardcore kinda guy becuase i like a little bit of everything in what i listen to.

There was a great H/C band called Doggy Style that played around NYC a lot in the 80's. Don't know what happened to them though..............

I think the last time I saw CIV was at "Hardcore for Hunger" at Tramps in NYC maybe three of four years ago...they were very good. A friend saw them at Warped at Randalls Island and said otherwise. I don't know about that "13 Day Get Away" stuff, I havn't heard any of it.I don't know if it's considered "hardcore", but some bands that I thought sounded great were Ensign, Bouncing Souls, Rancid, Avail, Sick of it All, H20 (although most of you guys who saw them recently say they sucked, they WERE pretty good), Bad Religon (maybe not hardcore), Shutdown (see H20 comments), Youth Brigade, Kill Your Idols, etc. Did Madball open up for H20 a few years ago? Noha: Madball and H2O are very close...H2O used to be melodic hardcore..now they are poppy punk. H20 put out two really fucking awesome albums..self titled..and FTTW. Bouncing Souls are just punk to me..definitely not hardcore. 25 ta life is a good example of what I think is hardcore.
