Well, the first fight I have been waiting for for a while is going to happen this Saturday. Triple G vs Canelo Alvarez. These kinds of super fights used to be common. Either way, it'll be nice to see two tough warriors battle it out.

Long time no see FC. I think the last time I was active, I was asking for this fight to happen.. 2-3 years ago? The fight delivered in all 12 rounds, but sadly the judges didn't. Boxing isn't dead because of the matchups and lack of a HW division, it's because of the corruption. I saw a draw coming around the 10th round. How can you take a fight seriously when there's always a wildcard judging the fight? A female judge scoring a landslide for Canelo? [hmmm] It's disappointing, but at least we'll have a rematch. I'm not sure GGG will win a decision against Canelo in this day and age. I hope he understands it will take a KO.

That judge who gave a lopsided victory to Canelo, has been under scrutiny before. Name is Adelaide Byrd.

An article in the NY Post highlighted all three judges as suspect and that GGG would have no chance if it went to the scorecards.

I didn't see the fight. How did you guys who saw it score it?

It was a pretty even fight, but GGG should have won it. The fact that Byrd's card was 118-110 for Canelo is a travesty.

Did anyone else kind Max Kellerman's commentary during the fight to be a little questionable? I think there were 2 or 3 occasions where he called a glancing blow, or soft jab from Canelo a "power punch". I also thought there were a couple times where it looked like GGG could have ended it (i.e. canelo clearly stunned and time left in the round) where Kellerman made comments to the effect that he was playing possum.... felt very strange.

I have no problem with 2 of the 3 scores, and could have accepted a slight edge in Cannel's favor (rather than the landslide victory from Byrd), but 118-110 is criminal.

I didn't notice Kellerman's commentary, but just like Rogan pimping Rousey as something special, he may very well have been trying to prop up a guy even he thought would get tuned up by GGG.

I suppose that may have been the case. And when I think about it, I was alerted to the disparity of commentary by huge GGG fan. So I was looking for it after about round 4

Excellent fight - thoroughly enjoyed it. However, no way Golovkin loses that fight. I think he took his foot off the gas a bit late, but he still did enough to win that fight. The guy who had it 115-113 had it right. The judge (Byrd) who had it 118-110 has done this before, and should be investigated and fucking jailed. Anyone who doesn't think money isn't being passed here is naive or doesn't know the history of boxing AND Vegas. An absolute fool wouldn't have scored that fight 118-110, so to have a so-called professional judge that fight (one of the BIGGEST fights of the last 5 years) as 118-110 for the GUY WHO SHOULD HAVE LOST is beyond ludicrous. Should have just had a 6-year old judge the thing. It couldn't have been any worse.

As long as judges aren't held to account and nobody is doing prison time, these things are going to continue and boxing is going to suffer more and more.

https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/9/17/16322172/bo x... - Apparently, Byrd "had a bad day". That was a quote from Bill Bennett, the head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Bad day? Really? Think about all the money that was involved in this fight and one of the judges "has a bad day"? That score is waaaaay beyond a "bad day".

118-110 for Canelo Alverez is NOT a bad day. That's corrupt and fraudulent. There's tons of money involved here, and people have done serious time for less money than that.

Canucko...what do you think???

I scored this fight eight rounds to 4 for Golovkin. To me, it was almost as bad a decision as Holyfield Lewis, which was also a draw.

I could have lived with a close decision as I also felt that HBO was being very biased towards Triple G, but I definitely cannot see any justification for that one card for Canelo.

Anybody ever see the ESPN special on Tommy Morrison ?

Damn, how depressing.

Dude had it all, but boy was he stupid. Weird kind of stupid; well-spoken and very sensible when speaking. But everything he did was just dumb, 100% of the time.

At the end, he and his 3rd wife announced that he never had HIV, even as he slowly died from all the classic hallmarks of AIDS. He was 44, but he had the HIV for 15-20 years before he really went south. Probably would have held it off like Magic, if he hadn't kept drinking and doing all the drugs, never stopped for a minute.

Their story was that he died from a spider bite in prison.

The guy reminded me of John Daly, just 1000X worse than Daly.

His KO loss to Ray Mercer is one of the most brutal I've ever seen.

Great story about Mercer's fight with Jesse Ferguson at MSG back in the early 90s. Apparently, after Ferguson was beating him from ring-post to ring-post while boxing his ears off, Mercer leaned in and offered Ferguson a bribe to throw the fight as Mercer was lined up for a big payday in his next fight. Ferguson then leaned in and said, "You should've trained harder, Ray."
