Years ago I looked up a lot of exhibition games that were played in Ontario in the 60s and 70s. Most NHL teams had their camps in Ontario (Bruins in London, Rangers in Kitchener, Islanders in Peterborough, Seals in Kingston, Kings in Barrie, etc...) so most of the early preseason games were played in those towns. And most of the games were fairly uneventful. I'd say about 60% were fight free. Some newspapers like the London, Kingston and Kitchener ones would have complete penalty summaries and game reports, others like the Peterborough and Barrie papers were almost useless.
In 1973 there was an exhibition game in Barrie with the hometown senior team – the Flyers, playing the Rochester Americans. It was a fairly rough game, and the Amerks coach (Don Cherry) and a female fan ended up getting charged with assault. They didn’t print a penalty summary, and barely mentioned the brawling or the fight with the fans.

Thanks BJ.
Those pre Carlson Stars teams always got kicked around. It was discrouraging to watch, particularly when the Flyers or Bruins came to town.
I guess that is another reason I like Jack so much. He was to the the North Stars like Fotiu was to the Rangers.
