I dont know, maybe I am too far up Carcillos butt to see the truth, but I see what he did as smart and a contributioon to his future longeivity in the league.
For us, as Fight Fans, it sucks. It is a puss move. But for the team, the game, he did a good thing. He pulled a Keith Acton and made an opponent so incensed that said opponent did stupid things, causing his team the game.
I like Carcillo and he is doing what he has to to stay in the league. Talk about a guy who FULLY understands his role. He does and that is why I like him.
On the flip side, I can totally see how it can be very hard to like the guy. I honestly can, but I would take him back to the Yotes yesterday if I could.
As for the yapping and after game comments- I also can do without them but he has no filter and he is simply setting up the next game. Orr will come out like a maniac next game, and maybe cost his team another win.
Heart, toughness, desire, and dare I say intelligence- can't ask for much more.
It may have seemed smart because Leighton was alright and the Flyers won the game which allowed Carcillo to come out smelling like roses. However to hang your teammate and goalie out to dry shows a lack of heart, toughness, desire and dare I say intelligence on Carcillo's part. Fighting Orr off the faceoff because Orr asked him to fight would be stupid. Fighting him because you're one of the toughest guys on the team and if you don't do it someone else might have to so that your goalie and your captian don't get run at the rest of the game. The fact that players aren't there for eachother and coaches encourage this type of gutless behaviour and reward it with praise and the refs reward it with excess powerplay time while a guy like Orr is benched by his coach because he got Bettmanized out there by Carcillo and the ref is a nice example of why the game is fucked these days and why a guy like Savard got smoked earlier yesterday. That could well have been Leighton or Richards and if it had have been, I have to wonder how many people would have thought Carcillo was so smart for declining the fight then.
I agree totally, and I HATE it! Not that I agree with you but the fact that this is the NHL we live in. Unfortunately it is what it is. Carcillo has to do what he did.
Also, they have Asham- a HEAVYWEIGHT. why is the responsibility being put on Carcillo, a middleweight? There is a reason he does not fight heavies- he is not a heavy- he just plays with the heart of one.
I still think Carcillo does his job perfectly.
FWIW, Asham is definitely not a HW. He will occasionally mix it up with the big boys but he is more of a MW, and one of the better ones out there.
Although most fight fans agree that size doesn't necessarily dictate weight class, Asham and Carcillo are almost identical in size. Technically, Carcillo is actually listed at 6' as opposed to Asham who is listed at 5'11 and both are listed at 205.
Ok, so I overstated his actual weight class. My point is he seems more apt to fight those types of battles, although I would have to look at the scorecard.I am saying that blindly without any proof.
I guess by capitalizing it, I look a bit more unknowlegable. LOL I would love to say I was being saracstic, but I wasn't. I need to go refresh my knowledge- I have spent too many months wasting away in the political forum, my internal hockey database has melted-

Ah, don't sweat it NN, its no big deal. With Cote not playing, I guess technically Asham is our HW now! lol
| You know what I think about before I pull the trigger? I think about the infield fly rule. I love that fn rule. It assumes the worst of everybody. |

Thanks, I fear that this is the way it will be in 5 years- no such thing as a "heavyweight"- the only fights will be sporadic ones that eminate
from scrums.
Teams will have mostly Euro players sprinkled with some overly talented Canadians and the rare American.
But, I digress..

It will be nice having someone who can actually hang with Colton Orr instead of letting him run around like a mad man.

the refs seemed to swallow their whistles that game, it was a wonder Richards didn't get injured the way Orr hit him all game. Sometimes I just don't get Orr's game? Maybe Shelley shows him the errors of his ways against Philly.
Let's hope.

Indulge us then on why Danny-boy would go with a complete non-fighter light Gaborik then?
Your arguement holds zippy water.
You must love "todays" NHL.
I hate to say it, but you answered your own question..
Carcillo takes Gaborik out for 5 mins and effectivrly the whole game, HUGE advantage for the Flyers..
Carcillo takes out Orr for 5 mins, prob loses the fight, and doesnt help his team....
Sometimes you gotta take the good with the bad when you have a guy like Orr on your team, every once in a while he might do something to hurt your team today, but in the long run it beneifits..

Something most of you overlook here is that back in the dawn of the heavywieghts the so called "enforcers" could actualy play..
guys like Furguson, Wensink, Schultz, O'Reilly, Jonathon were all capable of scoring 20 goals a year..
if you go to the next generation, guys like Kocur, Probert, McSorely, Tocchett, were all-stars as well as scoring 10-20 goals a year...EVEN LYNDON BYERS SCORED 10 GOALS ONCE.
it seemed to have changed when the superstars started making millions, so guys who would fight and not do much else where used because they were supercheap and team could round out there payroll and have ther superstars protected..
