Also TGR: What were you saying regarding the Secord-Richter fight, where Secord hurt him? That it was a nothing fight, or that it was over blown?
I'm going on what Gary Green was saying during the USA Network telecast. When he fought Plett later in that game he said Plett was going after him due to the damage to Richter's face. I'm assuming they had information during the telecast that this was the case. I watched that game live but I can't remember if Richter came back or not to play.
It was a nothing fight but you can see Secord still trying to get at him when the refs were in there. That's one thing I didn't like about Secord. He would go after guys after the fight was over and the ref was holding the other guy. I can understand the occiasional incident due to a guy beng fired up, but Al seemed to do this more than others.
Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.

I have to agree with Upton about Probies all star season. 29 goals and 398 PIM's. If only he could have netted 1 more goal and maybe a 2 minute boarding call in the last game. A 30 goal 400 PIM season would be unheard of today.
Secords record will never be broken either but I think that season of Probies he could have come close to 500 PIM's. I was and still am a big fan of both

Al being traded for that putz Mike O'Connell is probably the worst trade in Bruins history. O'Connell was a so-so player, a complete skirt wearer, a whiner, a terrible GM, and his decisions hurt the Bruins to this day. He is a prime reason what Harry Sinden is overrated as a GM.
Al was a great power forward for those few years. I tend to agree that he was more successful with high end line mates, than by himself (ala Warren Young.. 40 goals almost 200 PIMs), but his accomplishments cannot be denied. Al would have been an amazing Bruin if he hadn't been traded. Hell, he was a fairly amazing Bruin while he was here. He was a good fighter (he was better in Chicago) and a decent player. Heavily over shadowed by O'Reilly, Cashman, Jonathan. Hence he was deemed expendable by fucken Sinden.
Because of his short productivity, I cannot reasonably put him in the top 5 all time...but... its hard to overlook his accomplishments. He was a great fighter and great scorer for part of his career, and during that time, he was everything we at FC admire.

What might have been? Sinden definately screwed the pooch on that one. How about this, a line of Pederson - Middleton - Secord? Secord could have helped them in some of those playoff match up's against the Islanders and Montreal. He would have also helped with the physical part as O'Reilly got older. O'Reilly had to battle more injuries during that time period. Chicago made out in that deal.
That and the tragic end to Normand Leveille's career. I think he was going to be a good player. Sad that his career was ended before it really got going due to the brain clot.
