So I think I'm going to try getting into seeking out baseball TTM autos to start a collection for my son. Hopefully he will enjoy them and it will be something we can do together as he grows up.
I've been researching how to do it and watching videos on youtube of people who do. Gonna try to send a ball to Rhys Hoskins of the Phillies during spring training. So far he has a pretty high success rate regarding TTM autos, so I'm hoping to catch him early before he gets too inundated with requests and starts returning pre-printed postcards.
Since I work for Rawlings I get official MLB balls pretty cheap, including event balls like all-star, futures, and HR derby. Even with my discount sending balls can get pretty costly so I'm going to start with only a couple players and see how successful I am before investing too much. If I send a few out and get nothing in return, I'll just cut my losses.

I would highly recommend mailing balls to Carl Erskine and Bobby Shantz. Toss in like $10 and they'll do a stat ball, where they write a ton of career stats on along with their autograph. There probably are a few others who would do it too for a reasonable price, but those two are the ones I'm sure of off the top of my head.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Neshek. He's been an autograph collector forever and was even mailing autograph requests to past and present players as a minor league player (hell, he might even still do it now).

I'm just going to combine my January and February update into one at the end of the month. January was pretty slow, and February will be too. Most of my mailing budget is going into my roadtrip to the National Sports Collectors Convention this summer with a friend. Going to hit a bunch of ballgames on the way up, during it, and on the way back. Schedule looks like this right now...

Thursday, July 26: Arron (the friend going with me) comes in from Wichita Falls to DFW. Pack up. Prepare for Friday's 6 am departure...
Friday July 27: Drive from DFW to Birmingham, AL, 'graph the Tennessee Smokies vs. Birmingham Barons game
Saturday, July 28: Drive to Lexington, KY, 'graph the Rome Braves vs. Lexington Legends game
Sunday, July 29: Drive to Charleston, WV, 'graph the Asheville Tourists vs. West Virginia Power game; drive to Cleveland
Monday, July 30: drive to Columbus, OH, 'graph the Indianapolis Indians vs. Columbus Clippers game
Tuesday, July 31: drive to Eastlake, OH, 'graph the Great Lakes Loons vs. Lake County Captains game; drive to Toledo, OH, 'graph the Louisville Bats vs. Toledo Mud Hens game
Wednesday, August 1: *maybe* 'graph the Gateway Grizzlies vs. Lake Erie Crushers game; National starts at 2 pm
Thursday, August 2: National; drive to Akron, OH, 'graph the Bowie Baysox vs. Akron Rubber Ducks game
Friday, August 3: National; take the RTA downtown to fail at 'graphing the Angels vs. Indians game
Saturday, August 4: National; drive to Eastlake, 'graph Bowling Green Hot Rods at Lake County Captains game (maybe skip it)
Sunday, August 5: skip the last day, drive to Fort Wayne, IN, 'graph the Lansing Lugnuts vs. Fort Wayne Tincaps, drive to Joliet, IL
Monday, August 6: drive to Cedar Rapids, IA, 'graph Beloit Snappers vs, Cedar Rapids Kernels game; drive to Des Moines, 'graph Las Vegas 51s at Iowa Cubs game (maybe skip that)
Tuesday, August 7: 'graph Las Vegas 51s at Iowa Cubs game; drive to Kansas City for dinner with friends, maybe 'graph the Texas Airhogs vs. Kansas City T-Bones game, drive somewhere into Kansas until we get tired
Wednesday, August 8: drive to Wichita Falls, TX and DFW. Try not to die from exhaustion.

Went to Marlins fanfest this weekend and got some baseballs signed. Got Mattingly on a Gold Glove ball, Starlin Castro on 17 MLB All-Star ball, Tayron Guerrero on a 17 Futures Game ball, Sandy Alcantra on a MLB ball, Derek Dietrich on a Memorial Day ball and Jose Ureña on an Independence Day 17 ball.
Mailed a 17 Futures Game ball to Rhys Hoskins. Hopefully he's signing ttm during spring training.

Went to Astros spring workouts every day this week. They aren't signing much, perhaps an after effect of winning the series, but I managed to get Brian McCann, Evan Gattis, and Yuli Gurriel on MLB WS balls.

That's pretty typical of WS teams-- many get signed to paid, exclusive contracts to only sign for companies like Steiner so they're in no mood to sign for us in the hoi polloi. That Mattingly ball sounds awesome!

Mailed it today. Sent two 8x10's and two 5x7's along with a letter explaining the picture and he could keep the extras. Hopefully I'll have good news to post in a few weeks.

Never did get anything back from Ryan Smyth on this. I even threw in $20 because I wasn't sure how to pay for return postage from Canada. It was worth a shot.

Well that sucks. On the positive side, I've seen some from him that have taken a few years, so hopefully it's sitting in a pile waiting somewhere.

Maybe he'll show up again somewhere as a coach or something of the sort.
