So you're ready to buy this story lock, stock and barrel based upon the poor husband's grief?
There is much to be considered here.
Especially medically.
But, by all means, let's take the word of a grieving widower and make it a political issue.

something in that story doesn't add up. Why is the country opposed to inducement? I have never heard the church being opposed to inducement. Abortion is a different matter. And maybe I missed it in the article, but how far along was she in the pregnancy? And lastly, during a pregnancy, even in a secular country, they dont just do an abortion due to pain (backpain). Well actually they do, you can say you have the shits so you want an abortion here, but I am trying to be sensible assuming it was a late stage pregnancy, most hospitals dont just abort a baby without trying to find out what's wrong. They will run tests and try to find out what is causing the issues. What were the results of those exams and dont tell me Irish hospitals dont run those types of tests, because they do. So without knowing all the facts, dont rush to judgment here.
And as awful the story sounds, its not as bad as a partial birth abortion procedure. When you start sawing off limbs from fully formed "foetuses" then we can make a comparison between this tragic story and something that happens in the US far too often (and more often). And ironically I am pro choice other than 3rd trimester abortions. And lastly, what the fuck is a foetus?????

Kanrok - you need to all over this one

Come on Kan, really?
This is an interesting article, particularly because of the less-Christian-than-Ameri ca country.

My objection to the article stems from the assumptions made within it.
I feel horrible for the mom, the baby and the dad.
The dad is a dentist, BTW.
But I would never go to a dentist to provide me an opinion about the mechanism of death resulting from sepsis.
The article assumes that everything the dad said regarding the failure of having an abortion had on the mom's sepsis and eventual death was 100% true.
There is too much to discuss medically to arrive at those opinions on causation.
Secondly, it is a blatant political article.
There is a continual fight about abortion going on in Ireland - a Catholic country.
This is being used as an example of what goes wrong when abortion is not performed at the drop of a hat.
I posted it here before, and in Great Britain, there were millions of abortions performed since it became legal, and less than 200 or so abortions performed to save the life of the mother.
It is rare, rare, rare.
But it doesn't stop the press in Ireland from using this case as a cudgel (Shillelagh?) to fan the flames for abortion on demand.
It may turn out that this was one of those rare, rare, rare cases where the mom's life could have been spared by an abortion, but we shouldn't base our opinions about that on a grieving widower.
I reserve my right to change my opinion after the investigation occurs.
(Which, BTW, actually did occur in the stories KK posted above).

Fact: the mother died.
Fact: her pregnancy killed her.
Get off your moral high horse and smell reality.

Fact: The mother died.
Fact: The baby died.
All other "facts" are currently being investigated.
That is the smell of reality.
Funny how you lose your objectivity so easily.

A suddent outset of severe backpain + septicaemia as reported cause of death really leave no other answer than a botched opportunity to abort. Your moral stance is clouding your judgement, but being a lawyer and true believer, color me unsurprised. Either way, I'm sure you will never admit the doctors fucked up and should have performed the abortion.
