Glad you asked! The answer: a gun-grabbing Illinois State Senator!

By Jason Meisner
Tribune reporter
December 6, 2012

State Senator Donne Trotter was released on bond this afternoon after being arrested for trying to bring a gun onboard a plane and walked out the front of the Leighton Criminal Court Building among a throng of reporters, photographers and cameramen.

As he was peppered with questions about his political future, Trotter said, “Not now, not today.”

Moments earlier, his lawyer, Joshua Herman, had announced that Trotter would not take questions.

“It’s been a long day” and he just wants to get home to his family, Herman said.

Trotter jumped into a black sedan and was whisked away.

Earlier, a Cook County judge set bail at $25,000 for Trotter on a felony charge for allegedly trying to board an aircraft with a gun in his carry-on luggage.

Trotter’s attorney said he was ready to post the necessary $2,500 cash bond so that Trotter could be released from custody. The South Side lawmaker spent the night in custody in a police lockup.

Assistant State’s Atty. Lorraine Scaduto said Trotter’s gun was not registered in the city of Chicago as required by municipal ordinance.

Trotter kept his hands folded in front of him as prosecutors detailed the charge against him during the brief hearing in the Leighton Criminal Court Building.

Transportation Security Administration officials spotted the .25 caliber Beretta in a garment bag as Trotter went through a security checkpoint at O’Hare International Airport a little after 8 a.m. Wednesday. He was planning to board a flight to Reagan International Airport in Washington.

According to prosecutors and court records, Trotter told police he got off work as a security guard at about midnight and forgot that his gun was in his garment bag along with a clip containing six live rounds.

Judge Israel Desierto, who set bond for Trotter at $25,000, also ordered him to surrender any other firearms in his possession.

Several family members, including Trotter’s wife and brother, were in court to support him but declined to speak after the court hearing.

Herman told the judge his client has 24 years of public service and no criminal record of any kind. He has been married 26 years and has four grown children and six grandchildren, the lawyer said.

Trotter is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday in Branch 50 at Grand and Central Avenues.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.

Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.

What is his party affiliation? Usual that is prominently displayed when the MSM wants to make a subtle point.

Oh yeah, and what color was the gun? We know the sedan he drove away in was black.

Fishy? Not in Chicago!

December 7, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- Questions tied to the security company that employed Sen. Donne Trotter, who faces a felony gun charge, have emerged.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the security company employing Trotter has been paid more than $350,000 as a subcontractor on a City of Chicago security deal and is represented by a politically powerful lobbying firm run by Gery Chico, a onetime top aide to former Mayor Richard M. Daley, the Sun-Times reports.

Trotter is charged with trying to board a plane with a gun. On Thursday, he spoke about his political intentions.

"I intend on staying in the race at this time and will continue to campaign for the people of the Second District," Trotter said.

Trotter was arrested Wednesday at O'Hare, where security discovered a gun in his carry-on bag.

"On advice of my attorney, I can't respond to any questions addressing what's going through the court system at this time," he said.

Trotter, a Democrat who has served in the state legislature since 1988, spent Wednesday night in police lockup. Thursday, the judge set Trotter's bond at $25,000.

At the bond hearing, his attorney had argued for a reasonable bail citing Trotter's decades of public service.

Trotter, 62, appeared in court Thursday wearing the same clothing that he wore Wednesday when arrested at O'Hare.

Prosecutors alleged that Trotter had an unloaded .25-caliber pistol and an ammunition clip containing five bullets in a carry-on bag searched at an airport security checkpoint.

Assistant state's attorney Lorraine Scaduto said Trotter told police he left his job as a security guard late Tuesday and forgot the gun and ammunition were in his garment bag.

The senator has a FOID card and was licensed to carry the weapon on his job. However, Scaduto told the court the gun was not registered in the City of Chicago.

Only days ago, Democratic party insiders told ABC7 that Senator Trotter was the odds-on favorite to win the party's endorsement to be the replacement for Jesse Jackson Jr. Now that Trotter faces a felony weapons charge, that has clouded his political future.

"Our No. 1 goal right now is to get Mr. Trotter back with his family, and right now that's all I'm prepared to say right now," said Trotter defense attorney Josh Herman.

Trotter was released after posting 10 percent of his bail Thursday afternoon.

"You have to have a judicial process, and that's what's going on now, and I think that's the only way to go," said Illinois Governor Pat Quinn.
Quinn and other politicians ABC7 contacted reserved judgment on Trotter, who as recently as last week was mentioned as a candidate favored by Democratic party leaders to replace the resigned 2nd District Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.

"Until there is something that points to him being guilty, people made promises to him so they are not going to cut and run," U of I Institute of Government & Public Affairs Professor Cedric Herring said. "They are going to support someone who has the political power."

Before the arrest Wednesday, Trotter had a virtually unblemished political and personal record.

"Almost a lifetime of Mr. Trotter's dedication to service in the House and the Senate. It's over 20 years," said Herman. "I spoke also of his dedication to his family: 26 years married he has four kids, six grandkids."

Politically speaking, Trotter's problem is timing. His next court appearance is Wednesday, December 12. The Democrats meet to decide which candidate they will endorse on December 15.

If Trotter continues to seek the endorsement, he'll do it for the time being as an accused felon.

Late Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for Frank Zucarelli, the committeeman for Thornton Township, says Zucarelli still backs Senator Trotter's candidacy for Congress and will vote that way when party leaders meet on December 15.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.

Look !! Somebody wrote s story about it ! And no Al Capone, Bartman, or gundogs !

For everyone to grasp except for clyde -

Yesterday Mel Reynolds announced his candidacy for the House seat representing Illinois' 2d Congressional District, which includes the city's South Side and -- oh, look! -- Obama's Hyde Park house. So, he'll be eligible to vote in the February Democrat primary and the meaningless April special election.

That special election became necessary after the sudden resignation last week of the district's easy Nov. 6 election winner, eight-term member Jesse Jackson Jr.

Jackson Jr. has been absent from his House duties most of this year during treatment for depression and bipolar disorder. His situation was complicated by revelations that federal authorities are probing allegations of his misuse of campaign funds, not a rare occurrence in Chicago politics.

That resignation and special election is an interesting coincidence because Jackson Jr. was also initially elected in a special election, in December 1995. That followed the sudden resignation of the district's House incumbent after his conviction on 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography.

That new convicted felon was Mel Reynolds.

Reynolds had been elected to the House in 1992 succeeding Democrat Gus Savage, who'd been condemned by the House Ethics Committees over allegations of sexual misconduct with a Peace Corps volunteer during an official visit to Zaire.

During the 1994 House campaign, Reynolds was indicted for sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse. The married congressman had developed an attraction to a 16-year-old female constituent, who became a campaign volunteer and candidate mistress. At one point the teenager confided her underage relationship with Reynolds to a neighbor. The neighbor was a police officer.

Reynolds denied the charges, said they were racially-motivated, continued his second House campaign and, naturally, was easily reelected in November 1994.

Wait...What?

Mel Reynolds announced is candidacy for Jesse Jr.'s seat?

So let me see if I can get this straight.

Reynolds, a convicted felon, is announcing his intention to run for Jesse Jr.'s seat in Congress because Jr. is being indicted, and the front runner for the seat just got arrested for trying to bring a loaded gun onto an airplane?

Wait. It gets better. Reynolds stepped into the 2nd District Congressional seat after his predecessor was under investigation for sexual assault in Zaire?

When you thought that it couldn't get crazier in Chicago politics, this happens.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.

Of course Jacksons guilty right? Funny how the "Im not racist" screaming hypocrite already portrays the black guy as "convicted".

Maybe he was diddy bopping down the wrong street after dark, because we all know you assume they're guilty too.

Keep judging churchie, Jesus loves it when you link guys like Obama with convicted felons. Is that in the Bible next to " kill anyone eating scallops"?

Dude...NYRfan was in the military with tons of black guys and not one of them ever heard him use the word n****r, so there's no way he's racist. Come on, now.

Nevermind that there's an equally ridiculous list of Republicans who have done equally stupid shit.

How the hell has the board gone from myopic Flyer fans versus myopic Bruins fans to this?
