Alright nerds, I know you are fucking here, so lets do this. This is now going to be 3 films, it has had serious production issues with delays and a director change, 48 frames per second controversy, and now it is getting some fairly mediocre initial reviews. Can Jackson deliver a trilogy as memorable as LOTR, or is this doomed to never shine as brightly?

What do you guys think of the casting choices? Jackson has also taken a lot of liberties with the source materials to stretch this into 3 films. Is this purely profit motivated or do you think that he is going to give the hardcore fans what they want?

I'm a big fan of the first trilogy and hope that Jackson has been able to pull off something as memorable. However, I expect things to be different, as the original novel has a much different tone than LOTR and is much more lighthearted in parts. I'll be there next weekend for the premier.
