As a huge metal fan, I've always appreciated when a metal band surprises it's fans with something a little different. I'm not talking about 'Poisonesque' cheese ballads, I'm talking about rare glimpses of the band's 'sensitive side'. Maybe they aren't the best of their best, but just the contrast between their usual work and these songs make them memorable.
Some of these include 'Changes' by Sabbath, an intimate interval buried amidst their usual content of doom and gloom.
Probably my favorite is this piece by Ronnie James Dio. No snakes or swords in this one, but typically Dio in its content. Dreamy lyrics, with a powerful delivery. Might be borderline power ballad, but because it's done so well... it becomes so much more.

I think it might be their only song with an acoustic guitar.

Good call on WASP... I have a strange adoration for the acoustic version of "The Idol". Blackie has a very unique quality to his voice that I really like.

I always liked No Stranger To Love by Sabbath but alot of people view it not as Sabbath but has the Tony Iommi Solo Band. Warner Brothers made them call it Black Sabbath. Love Ray Gillen who replaced Hughes 5 shows into the tour!
Pearcy's solo band Arcade always had a good ballad on their albums although I admit Pearcy's voice may not be best suited for power ballads!

The Scorpions - "China White"
Thin Lizzy - " Dancin in the Moonlight" has to be my favorite though.

Priest had a few balladesque tunes. One of my faves is " Dreamer Deceiver". Here's a live version back in Halfords hair days. Man the guy had pipes.

Ride On is a great choice SJ17!
I'll submit "Thunderbird" by Quiet Riot from the Metal Health album. Not the typical fluff ballad here, which ran rampant shortly thereafter. Written while he was alive, eventually put out as a dedication to former QR guitarist Randy Rhodes.

Maybe not "metal" per se, but Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" or "All my love" fit the bill nicely.
