Ok so Burke was replaced by Nonis. What happens now? Is Carlyle safe or will Eakins be replacing him sooner than later? Nonis said in his speech he wants a tougher team and with Orr practicing with teammates, will he get to play? Even though the forward lines are kind of crowded.. oh and there's Luongo.
My opening night lineup prediction:
Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
MacArthur-Grabovski-JVR
Komarov-Connolly-Kulemin
Brown-McClement-Frattin/O rr
Extra: Lombardi, Steckel.
Phaneuf-Gunnarsson
Liles-Komisarek
Holzer-Fraser/Ranger
Extra: Franson (RFA), Gardiner (injured)
Reimer, oh or Luongo
Scrivens
I think Kadri, Colborne, Ashton, Reilly, etc stay in the minors/juniors for now. Reilly may get that 5-game tryout though.

Still not enough talent to make a push for the playoffs, and not enough toughness to make them entertaining. I admit that the 48 game season does help the Leafs slightly with a playoff push.
I don't expect to see Orr on the 4th line. IMO, at best he gets spot duty against teams like Boston or the Islanders. How much fun is that?
I said in another thread that I expect the Leafs 4th line to be Komarov - Steckel - Brown.

Their first two line forwwards arent great two way players which do cause the problems IMO.
They has some toughness in the defense as Komisarek is good hitter, although he isnt real fighter vut hes strong defensive defenseman plus there is Phaneuf who can to score and hit and fight if necessary.
Not heaviest team in the league but they can battle of the playoffs IMO, but wont succees of that i think, and if they does as they loses in first round.
Not enough talent, not enough toughness.
A player like Leo Komarov is getting his change and i am proud of it as he deserves it.

Unless they make some moves and make them quick, this team will suck just like they do every year but with that being said, with the short season everybody has a chance. Whoever starts off strong will have a chance. Stumble off the start and you might as well call it a day.

I agree,m theres better change when its shortened season.
If someone team starts SLOW so they are in trouble IMO.

I have zero expectations as usual. I haven't been a fan of the Leafs rosters since the Quinn era. This team needs big name players, a bunch of 2nd-3rd liners won't win you much.
I'll take spot duties from Orr any day of the week, over not having a Heavyweight at all.
If the Leafs are going down yet again, we'll lets go down fighting!

I sure do miss the teams from the 2001-2004 time frame. Domi, Belak, Perrott, Marchment, Corson, Roberts, Tucker (who we're still paying $1 million for 2 more years), McCabe, Green, and the scorers like Sundin, Mogilny etc to balance it all out, and the goaltending of Joseph, then Belfour.

Leafs agree to terms with RFA Cody Franson on a reported 1-year, $1 million deal. But it can't be officially announced until later today when the lockout is lifted.

John Scott will fall to Colton Orr on Jan 21st

Leafs got the Pens 2 days after Buffalo. If Mac is there Colt could run the Twin Towers gauntlet in 48 hours and then follow that up the very next night on Thursday the 24th by renewing acquaintances with Matt Carkner when the Islanders visit Toronto. If Orr makes the opening day roster, his first week of the season might tell the tale on how his season will play out as 3 of his most formidable opponents line up almost in order for him out of the gate.

Mac won't be in for Pittsburgh. He never even got a call-up for training camp.

Doesn't matter. Orr drops John Scott in game number 2 and/or Pittsburgh get roughed up in their first couple of games. They got the Flyers and Rangers. Hopefully Michael Haley will be up for the Rangers and terrorize Pittsburgh enough for them to see the error in their ways in not dressing Mac. He serves no purpose in a training camp or intersquad games where he's liable to hurt a teammate. He's better served playing more minutes in Wilkes Barre to get ready while other guys are called up for a look in training camp. All it takes is a phone call and he's in the lineup for their home game with Toronto on the 23rd.

I could live with just Orr and Brown. But if it's just Brown again this year the Leafs will be boring as hell to watch.
I don't think Fraser will crack the lineup with the depth at D. Hope I'm wrong.

These were the forward line combos today at practice. Looks to be the starting lineup on Saturday.
Lupul-Bozak-Kessel
MacArthur-Grabo-Kulemin
Komarov-Kadri-JVR
Brown-McClement-ORR
Steckel and Frattin were the extra forwards.
Fingers crossed.
As for defense, 2 of Fraser, Holzer, or Kostka will be sent down as it looks like Reilly is getting the 5-gamer.

Those are pretty shitty lines.
I hope its Fraser sticking and Holzer and that loser ex-Sabre farm hand scab Kostka goes down.
