I was wondering the overall opinion on the guy. I tend to think he is way under rated here. Could be a lot of reasons for that. Being out West in his prime didn't help him, getting dropped by Ray near the end of his career is memorable as is the playoff beat down he got from Brown in the battle of Alberta. A lot of people didn't know that he had fought Brown a couple of times previous to that and came out looking better than Brown in those tilts. Myself, I had him ranked top 5 for 3 or 4 season and as high as #3 during that time in the mid/late 80s.

What is most funny and unfair is the thing as a guy like Fiasco001 scored up a topic like this and peoples not picking up him and saying, you shouldnt score up a topic like this bec this is stupid, old or something else.
A guy like Coalinga came saying this to me when i scored up a Kyle McLaren topic.
This is similar type of topic by Fiasco001 to comparing mine topics on/in this forum.
Not being asshole or mean but i just think that is more unfair and weird.
Jim Kyte was even heavyweight champion after one season whivch was very very solid for him, as it was though on middle of 80's.
Top100 material easy, but not Top50 guy though as he falls down quickly, for becoming fighter whos win/loss record wasnt that impressive IMO.

He was the victim of several Brutal KO's that hurts his ranking a lot. Early in his career he had some moments though

It can be strongly argued he was the champ for a year, maybe two. Even late in his career he had his moments, dominating Todd Ewen and beating Grimson in a great fight when Stu was a Red Wing.

Jim Kyte probably was the heavyweight champ in 85/86. He TKO´d Dave Brown, and got decisive wins against both McSorley and Kocur. He didn´t fight a lot, like those other guys mentioned. But he did beat those other top guys soundly. Injuries and the Jets making him played injured during 87/88 hampered his effectiveness. Then he ran into the Kocur KO in 88/89 and it wnet downhill from there. He did seem to get back on track somewhat with Calgary in 91/92, untill he broke his ankle getting hammered by Peluso. He did have his moments in his last stint in the NHL. That fight with a prime Grimson, which Kyte won, was awesome, also dominating Ewen.

I always thought in the 80s prior to the Kocur Detroit fight, he was easily top 5. A really tough guy with punching power and a perfectly straight right hand.

Kyte was the champ for a couple years with some big wins. The KO by Kocur runined his career. He was never the same after that.

The strange thing with Kyte is he actually had a great chin until Kocur destroyed him. He took some bombs in fights and seemed unphased and then suddenly, he had zero chin.
I have a funny Jim Kyte story. I told this years ago but it's been a while. Steve Martinson retired from the Gulls and he became a stock broker/ wealth management professional for Soloman Smith Barney. I had known him for several years and as a favor, my dad was one of his first clients and opened up a modest retirement account with him. So he calls me one day and tells me that he is going to sign with Houston, as they need some muscle and were getting pushed around. He said not to worry about my dad's account and he was only going back to hockey for a month or so. He said one of the main reasons they signed him was to deal with Jim Kyte, who was knocking the Aeros around. I said something like "Kyte is pretty tough but has no chin" and he said something like, "Kyte sucks and hits like a fucking girl." He said he always wanted to fight him and thought he always sucked.
So this was a televised IHL game on ESPN2 and Martinson, old and rusty, takes on Kyte and gets fucking smoked. LOL

Kyte knocked the piss out of Ewen in that one for sure, kind of got some payback for Odgers from earlier in that game
