At the request of Fiasco, let's talk some Doug Halward. Looking at a picture of him, he literally looked like he had no chin. Had a decent career and even potted 19 goals one year as a D man on Vancouver (I believe he also registered a hat trick in the playoffs).
For someone who wasn't really a figher, he seemed to have answered the bell on more than a few occassions. He unloaded on the immortal Thomas Steen once too.
His fight card includes the likes of:
Marl Messier
Lyndon Byers
Al Secord
Nick Fotiu
Dan Maloney
Mel Bridgman
Ed Beers
Ulf Samuelsson
Chris Nilan
Tim Hunter
Steve Smith
Herb Raglan
Lindsay Carson
Jay Miller
Richard Zemlak
Dave Taylor
Todd Ewen.....
Not too shabby a card.......

I have the Beers fight, a clip of the Nilan fight (broken nose for Hawk) & the Steen fight. Not sure about the others.

The fight with Messier was an ugly beating. Felt bad for Halward after that.

A poor man's Doug Zmolek! Always a 6th/7th tier guy on any given team it seems. Horrible build, no strength, most known for pounding a fan in Quebec during a clash between Canucks trainer Larry Ashley and the fan behind the Canucks bench.

Zmolek was heads above Halward IMO. Zmolek was horrible his first few years, but he improved. Look at his wins over Grimson and McSorley. Halward sucked from day 1 until he left the NHL. Still feel bad for him fighting guys like Byers, Miller, Nilan. He was way out of his league. I also saw he had a fight with Fotiu, surprised he still was in the league after that.

I guess he was from an era where even the non fighters per se had a handful of majors each year. I have some dort of recollection of hearing how in Boston there was an argument between Harry Sinden and Don Cherry, in which Grapes was high on bringing along Milburry, but Sinden wanted to use the more finese oriented Halward.

You have to give Halward credit. Yeah, he couldn't fight worth a $#!^, but he was a team guy that would stand up for his linemates regardless of who he would have to fight. It takes a lot of balls to drop the mits, when you know that you are going to get your @$$ handed to you. So regardless of him being a punching bag, he still gets my respect.

What fiasco said. If only half of today's players had a fraction of past players, pride, I'd be more interested in watching a full game. As it is now, I'll basically wait on FC fight threads.
