Nolan vs. Smid
Nolan hits Eberle so then Smid goes after him. Nolan's waiting to be challenged and was all over Smid early as Ladislav missed a wild right and Nolan fired off 8 good left hands out of the gate to maybe two weak glancers by Smid before Smid takes a knee as he's under seige from Nolan who is kind of rag dolling him and unloading the left hand. Smid pops back up with a second wind though and throws 5 pretty solid right hands, but Nolan just turns his head and all of Smid's punches hit the side of his helmet. Then when Smid stops throwing the right, Nolan fired another left and Smid takes a knee again as he looks to bury his head in Nolans chest and push him against the boards and the zebras get in there. Game effort by Smid to step up for Eberle but he was in over his head here as Nolan pretty much had his way with him. Win Nolan.

Oilers put in the softy line up. Eager is hurt, Hordi was a healthy scratch and Sutton is gone for the year. I believe Peckham just came off IR so he either needs conditioning in the AHL or was a scratch too. Kings should have steam rolled over them but they only kinda did. Nolan and Clifford ran around a bit but Fristic had a few nice hits too.
I don't know they let these kids play with no protection. I would have out Hordi on the 4th line for sure.

I like Smid. He's a lousy fighter, but he's a good team player who can play the third pair and add some grit. It's pathetic that he was the toughest Oiler playing. Peckham needs to get back soon. They won't play Hordi.
All those young stars on that team and no one wants to protect them? If I were Katz, I'd fire the President, GM, and coach if they kept that nonsense going.

The fight started out from beauty hit.
Narrow win Nolan who won first half and final half.
Second half goes to Smid.

I don't understand why Smid got an instigator when Nolan had his gloves off first

they were talking about that on the Kings telecast. apparently it's because Smid "left his position" to go straight over to Nolan and issue the challenge. i didn't know that was the criteria they used in determining the instigator, either.
anyway, decent fight. All Nolan, as Smid was outmatched. good on him for defending his teammate (although the hit wasn't dirty or really that devastating). probably a bad decision on Smid's part, but whatever, i enjoyed the scrap.

Bullshit call on the instigator. The refs in this game made a shitload of horrible calls. It was pretty painful to watch, it ruined what could have been a good game. Entertaining fight though smid took a pretty good beating but I give him credit for hanging in there. The Oilers better start dressing Hordichuk, Eager is out with a concussion and they have nobody in the lineup to protect the brat pack at the moment.

I don't know why they are so reluctant to play Hordichuk. Kruger does realize that Hordichuk can play, right? I mean, relative to most enforcers, the guy is a good hockey player (and a wicked open ice bodychecker when he wants to be).

How does the NHL make these things up? Nice how they treat the average fan as having the hockey sense of that chimp Ronald Reagan went to college with.

Ya my buddy who lives in Edm said Hordichuk trained hard during the off season and looked great during scrimmages. Apparently he scored two goals and nailed hemsky with a huge open ice hit during the first scrimmage game.

It can get called for narrow or clear win Nolan.
Both calls works well to me.

Gotta love Smid. He got it handed to him, but he's got balls.
Oh and Hordichuk draws in tonight against the Flamers.
