Good for him. At least he has the balls to say it.

His 4th team in 4 years. Is he going to go 5-17 again, then blame it on being shy?

Balls or not, I still don't think that is something you admit to. Just in poor taste and certainly doesn't give a good first impression with your teammates.
He did something similiar to the Nats a few years back when he was with KC and the Nats offered Drew Storen, Danny Espinosa and a few picks. He rejected the trade basically by saying he didn't want to be held responsible for the Nats mortgaging their future on him.

Do you really think his teammates care about that stuff... in LA?

Seeing as how you don't thinks his teammates do then his actual teammates in LA probably don't either.

That would be almost as dumb as giving a pitcher sole credit for a win or loss...

the guy is not a normal athlete. He is medicated for social anxiety disorder and depression. Early in his career he supposedly couldnt function with the other players in the clubhouse. I am guessing a guy like that, with all of that talent, has to justify a way to keep doing it, even if it makes him miserable, and it probably is about the money. I am not defending the comment, but I dont think you can really discuss the matter without factoring in his emotional issues.

Also of note is that he handled almost all of free agency himself. It was him in all the meting/negotiations and not Casey Close. He's now got Verlander wanting to do the same thing. I believe the quote is that Verlander is "intrigued" by free agency and the process.

do you know how many star athletes couldnt function with their team to the point that they asked a retired local legend, George Brett, to live with the guy to calm him down. How many star athletes take meds for anxiety disorders and depression and nearly quit the sport as a result? He is definitely not a "normal" guy. If you run some google searches and read articles about his experiences with other players in the clubhouse, especially in his days in KC, I think Greinke is a guy who really struggles to be professional player, yet is unbelievably talented and paid so well, its worth dealing with as long as he can.

Mike,I bet more struggle with it than we hear about.Andy Reid has admitted having bad anxiety before public speaking. It's the most common fear in the world.I agree that Greinke is an extreme case, but not sure I would say he isn't normal. It's not a mental illness. Most people who get treatment can overcome this......

Depression? It's not just anxiety. He was diagnosed as clinically depressed. That's not normal. It's not rare in today's world, but to hear an athlete struggle with it like Greinke did makes you wonder just how bad it really is.

Quentin is an asshole. Consistently among league leaders in HBP including tops twice in a row. Gets hit on a 3-2 count in a 1 run game and charges the mound? What a douchebag. I hope someone beans him in the face.
