...the N.Y. Rangers, Washington Capitals, and Carolina Hurricanes COMBINED!!!

That's right. Thorburn has 9 fights. Those 3 teams all have 3 each.

That should tell you the state of fighting in the NHL.

I'm pretty much done with it. I catch up watching fights every couple weeks. Most of them are of 1 to 2 star quality. A lot of times I will add fights to the log without even following up to watch the clip.

I guess Chris Neil's 1000 games is the only thing the tough guy crowd has to celebrate this season.

Anyone have a Top 10? LOL

I assume the top 10 is Thorburn and the 9 guys he's fought this year.

Joseph Cramarossa is certainly Top 10, no?

If not he's surely 11 or 12.

UPDATE

The NHL's leading fighter Thorburn has been a perma scratch for the last few weeks or so. Swell!

Team wise, it's January 11th, and we have (8) teams with "single digit" fight totals still. Is that a record for this point in the season?

Further to that, Chicago, Carolina, and the NY Rangers share a tie at the bottom with a lowly 4 fights each.

Florida Panthers 9
Montreal Canadiens 8
Pittsburgh Penguins 7
New York Islanders 6
Washington Capitals 5
New York Rangers 4
Carolina Hurricanes 4
Chicago Blackhawks 4

Chicago decided not to keep Mashinter on the team, and Jordin Tootoo has stopped fighting.

Carolina is just a gong show in terms of anyone remotely tough.

The Rangers got rid of McIlrath and have kept Glass in the minors, so I guess a couple fights from Kreider and Klein is all one can expect there.

The lone bright spot outside of Anaheim leading the league by far with 27 fights, is Detroit in 3rd place with 18 fights! Hell surely has frozen over considering they had 8 fights last season, 8 the season before, and 7 the season before that! That's 23 fights in 3 years, and looks like they will smash that mark in this season alone.

Also good to see the Ducks playing well standings-wise as well. I hope they go all the way, even with guys like Perry and Garbutt.

UPDATE:

7 teams remain with single digit team fighting major totals. OUCH. Haven't seen this in mid February ever before? I can't believe how soft the Blackhawks are this year. Tootoo should be fighting more and they should have kept Mashinter.

Carolina is just pathetic as always. That team should fold and everyone would be happy.

The good news is 5 of the 7 teams below need just 1 more fight to get into the double digits and save some grace, even if it's only for optics at this point.

Montreal Canadiens 9
New York Rangers 9
Washington Capitals 9
Pittsburgh Penguins 9
New York Islanders 9
Chicago Blackhawks 6
Carolina Hurricanes 5

Player wise, took the guys with 8 or more fights. Only 9 players have that honor so far.

Cody McLeod 12
Jared Boll 12
Matt Martin 10
Chris Thorburn 10
Antoine Roussel 8
Marcus Foligno 8
Deryk Engelland 8
Micheal Haley 8
Austin Watson 8

Watson's been a pleasant surprise for the Preds. I just keep waiting for him to get KO'd though.

"Big Guy" McCleod is "protecting" him now, lol.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the Leafs. I didn't expect them to have close to 20 fights, especially playing for Babcock. People always think he was a weak coach, but I always say it was the guys above that screwed him. He played a fighter when he was given one (Downey, Bootland, McCarty, now Martin). Sure, he adapted to not having one, but he's always defended fighting. The Leafs had only 10 total last year, when he wasn't given a full-time fighter.

Babcock had Saywer and Burnett in his lineups with the Ducks. Maybe the last two least-skilled enforcers in the game.

Holland was always the issue with Detroit.. Whenever Babcock had a tougher guy in Detroit, he would play them.

WOW what a shit season overall. Actually a TAD more fights than I thought we would get but a lot of non fighter 1 star fights which shouldn't even count.

Also, was hoping McLeod would crack 20 fights, but nope, he falls 1 short. Team wise, some poor #'s by most. I guess it will only get worse but here are some final stats:

2016-2017 PLAYER FIGHT LEADERS
Cody McLeod 19
Micheal Haley 16
Jared Boll 15
Matt Martin 13
Chris Thorburn 13
Mark Borowiecki 13
Austin Watson 13
Kyle Clifford 11
Chris Stewart 10
Marcus Foligno 9
Patrick Maroon 9
Brandon Manning 9
Tom Wilson 9
Deryk Engelland 9
Antoine Roussel 8
Curtis McKenzie 8
Joseph Cramarossa 8
Steve Ott 8

2016-2017 TEAM FIGHT LEADERS
Anaheim Ducks 46
Nashville Predators 40
Dallas Stars 36
Edmonton Oilers 35
Calgary Flames 35
Tampa Bay Lightning 35
Ottawa Senators 32
Los Angeles Kings 31
Philadelphia Flyers 29
New Jersey Devils 28
Boston Bruins 28
Winnipeg Jets 27
Florida Panthers 25
Toronto Maple Leafs 25
Detroit Red Wings 25
Colorado Avalanche 24
San Jose Sharks 23
Columbus Blue Jackets 22
Buffalo Sabres 22
Arizona Coyotes 20
Minnesota Wild 20
Vancouver Canucks 20
Montreal Canadiens 19
New York Islanders 17
New York Rangers 16
Washington Capitals 16
St. Louis Blues 16
Chicago Blackhawks 14
Pittsburgh Penguins 12
Carolina Hurricanes 6

The Carolina Hurricanes should be hit in the face with a piece of heavy mining equipment, or better yet, shot in the face so their mother can't give them an open casket funeral. PATHETIC. 6 fights???? All season???? At least PIT got a cool dozen in the end.

I believe 30 players in the league had the same amount or more fights as the Hurricanes team.

Ducks went post to post with most fights. But 46 used to be on the lower end some years ago. Preds the only other team to hit 40.

I think this season had the most 1 star fights in NHL history. Probably because a lot of non fighters are fighting these days.

Thanks, this is a great reference tool to who won't be in the NHL next season.

Haha probably right. Here are some notes on guys who will be in the league still...

Marcus Foligno is an RFA but closing in on a 3 year deal apparently.

Tom Wilson has an lifetime contract for as long as he wants to play in the NHL. I think it never expires for obvious reasons so he is going nowhere.

Antoine Roussel is under contract for $2.4 mil next season and not a buyout option.

The Leafs signed spot picker Matt Martin to some ridiculous contract so I guess he will stick around for awhile.

Patrick Maroon is up for MVP if you talk to homer Oilers fans. I guess McDavid wants him to stay in EDM for years to come, so he will.

The rest are in tough though.

I didn't realize just how bad it has truly gotten until I tried to sit down and make a Top 10 of each decade of the video era. While I don't begrudge the disappearance of the one-dimensional heavyweight, the fact that I'd consider naming Cody McLeod as a Top 10 guy across the 2010s is more than just somewhat alarming.
