Ferguson and Cashman controlled that era. Also must to mention guys like Reg Fleming, Ted Harris, Ted Green, Orland Kurtenbach, who were more 60s fighters, but they also fought on 70s. There was coming new fighters on 70s like O'Reilly, Battleship Kelly, Bob Nystrom etc...

dave - you MAY or MAY NOT be thinking of Noel Picard. I know myself I used to always get Simon Nolet and Noel Picard mixed up. I know that when I saw the posting for this fight I immediately thought of the Picard fight (apparently a Fergie loss).

But, if I'm wrong....forgive.

i know (i think ) it was nolet-but as all us oldtimers have said a million times man the mind does play tricks on you as the years pass and the memories fade and the alcohol kills the brain cells doesn't it......as i recall from the story passed down during the years, fergie was giving it to him pretty good, as it appears on this clip, and BOOM nolet landed a one in a million (literally) and TKO/KO'd him.

now I agree i find that hard to believe big time but i am 99 sure it was nolet. hopefully mark, durbano, espo, or one of our many brother oldies can check in......

He did not TKO Fergie. What he did was cut Ferguson. I posted the picture before. Nolet landed a few good punches after that exchange. Between him coming back to make it a fight and Ferguson streaming blood from over the left eye, the Nolet won the fight clearly legend was born. Like you said its a long time ago but I still thought Fergie did ok. Remember Ferguson was the top guy and this one kind of shocked fans. It was on National TV also. I used to break balls on my Canadien's fan friend of mine because giving a loss to Fergie was big news. I don't know that he really lost . Both Nolet and Ferguson said that Ferguson won, Fergie in the newspaper and Nolet in an interview in Hocky World magazine.

Wasn't there a story going around that Bobby Clarke was holding one of Ferguson's arms at the beginning of the fight thus giving Nolet the advantage at the start?

I just quickly checked "Thunder and Lightning" and on pg. 148, Fergie briefly mentions the Nolet fight. He states that Clarke indeed held his arms as Nolet belted him twice. He then wrote that when he got loose he wound up on top of Nolet with Nolet begging him not to hit him.

So yes...it was Simon Nolet.

I have two warnings.
The first - until July 29 (for the clip 1967 11 11 B Orr B Hicke)
The second - until September 15 (for the clip 1971 11 07 W Cashman T Harper)
I'll try to get back after warnings.
