Tough to hear the latest news on Peat. Let's hope he can turn things around somehow!

For some of the younger readers, this guy was an upcoming, legit force & a big deal coming up with Caps in the early 00's. He was a pleasure to watch in Portland and had some real barn burners in both the AHL and NHL. Best wishes go out to Peat and his family.

Really really tough read, especially since we all loved him so much as a fighter. Lots of mixed feelings seeing so many of our pugilistic heroes in such tough shape. I hope he gets help.

Rough to read.

Not sure that I’d believe that the league and his former teammates would just abandon him, if it was just effects from his playing days.

“The doctors said” that he’s a drug addict. That sounds like something we’ve all probably experienced with friends and acquaintances, none of whom probably played professional sports.

Sometimes you just can’t reach/help people and have to walk away, for your own sanity.

A shitty situation, regardless. Hopefully he can turn it around.

Terrible. I see him active on Facebook sometimes. But I don't think he posts much.

Update on some former enforcers trying to help Peat. Good to see Purinton come out of it. Man I hated that fucking guy when he played, LOL.

Just terrible. He's clearly not in a good place and needs help. I don't think money will help him, only lead him to more destructive behavior. It seems as though there are opportunities for treatment. But he has to walk through those doors.

It upsets me a bit that I was so in to his fights... all the while it's slowly eroding his brain. CTE is a finicky thing. Some tough guys walk away fine from this game... others end up in really bad shape.

I know it's not a popular opinion on this site. But I look at fighting differently these days. I still have a ton of respect for the guys that do it, even more so because we/they now know so much more about the potential consequences, and they still choose to do stand up for their teammates. But seeing a guy get KO'd doesn't quite bring me the excitement it used to.
